Monday with Mary

Due to the birth of little Prince George over across the pond, we decided to pony up and go see his Grandmother's exhibit on the Queen Mary in Long Beach harbor this past Monday afternoon.  I met up with my two best girls and we explored the ins and outs of this lovely old boat.

I'd never been aboard the Queen Mary before (or any big cruise ship for that matter) and we had a great time poking around, grabbing lunch, and moseying through the Princess Dianna exhibit on board.  It was a fun, blustery day - plus there were more than one boats fair share of red telephone booths on deck, so, you know, I was happy.  

Minus the traffic there and back, it was a lovely time.  Apparently the Queen Mary is also one of the most haunted places in the US!  So we're planning to come back in October for a proper Halloween cruise - stay tuned!

sewing 101

Sometimes YouTube videos give me an unrealistic self confidence is my sewing ability. . .

Actually, today was the first time I've ever watched a YouTube video about sewing something, and the whole time she was explaining the ins and outs of making a pillowcase with French seams I was like, "Yeah, that looks easy.  Totally makes sense.  I can do that . . ."

Reality check:  The sewing machine and I haven't spent any quality time together since I took that quilting class in junior high, I hate measuring fabric/ always freak out about not getting the sizes right, and I have no idea what I'm doing most of the time.

But hey!  The girl on YouTube can do it!  Why can't I?

So, 10 minutes of looking for my thread & bobbin, 25 minutes of figuring out how to thread the machine, 1 episode of Chuck (paused many times), and 2ish hours of sewing later, here we are . . . with a perfectly finished pillowcase!  I know, that took a while, but it's done!  And I didn't have to rip out a single seam (mostly because I don't own a seam ripper so I made extra careful to do things right the first time).

 See those polka dots??  I MADE that without help (that is if a few google searches and calls to mom don't count)

Maybe I should try this sewing thing more often . . .

P.S. It kind of looks like a throw pillow in that picture, but it's a pillowcase for our bed, just in case you were wondering.

Romney, Obama, & the Nemrow's living room

 David's comments during the presidential debate last night:

          "This is better than a BYU football game!"

          "Man, this is good crap."

          "I need to call my dad . . ."

          "THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!!"

          "It's not personal - it's business.  Fight!  Fight to the death!"

          "Give him a little jab!  A left hook!" 

          "That was a cheap blow Romney!  Playin' kinda dirty there . . ."

          "It's been a minute and a half Romney - don't take all the time!"

Now insert him jumping around the living room, boxing the air with his fists, doing karate chop moves, pacing back and forth, and standing on top of our stools :

Yeah,  he's just up there releasing nervous energy. 

You think this kid is a little invested in the election?

Me neither.

I've been craving a map to put up in our house for a while now.  I thought about buying one off etsy, but, lets be honest, with Christmas around the corner I'm a little tired of watching funds fly out the window.  SO...I googled.

And guess what?

All it took was a little (lot of) time and waahla!  My very own little US map made by yours truly.

Note: Yes I'm aware the states don't exactly all fit together just right, but I think it sort of adds to the charm of the thing.  Don't you agree?

Now that this is done I probably should start studying for my marketing final..

Ask David and he'll be sure to tell you that I spend a good deal of time messing around on there (when I should probably be doing homework...)

Anyway I saw this darling picture on Pinterest (where else?) yesterday and I decided to recreate it.

And I did.

In an effort to liven up our already ridiculously crammed Wednesdays,

I thought it would be a good idea to sign Dave & I up to be in a bowling league.

To clarify, most weeknights
(ok fine, every night)
we're in bed by 10:00-ish


Lights off,

Heads on pillows,

Snoozin'

Bowling starts at 9:00 PM every Wednesday night.

This makes sense...

We might have become that married couple.

Dave is by far the most consistent bowler
(and...the only man)
on our team.

And we are probably the least serious group in the league.
(For some reason, no one else was cheering their heads off when their teammates hit down half the pins...)


But we're in it for the long haul (aka: the whole semester) and the goal is to break 100
(without the 60 point handicap we're given)

P.S. I'm definitely wearing a skirt like hers next time.

I think it might help my A-game.

I was under the impression that flotsam and jetsam were these guys?

a cure

Well I did it.

I found a cure for the hiccups.

Forget teaspoons of sugar & drinking water upside-down, 

this is the real deal: 

1st - Get yourself a fiance and a diamond ring.

2nd - He needs to be the one whose has the hiccups.

3rd - Put your ring in your pocket and tell him his 5-year-old niece took it and you're not sure where it is...

I promise his hiccups will go away,

right after he has a heart attack.

snow activities

Q: What's the worst thing about sledding?

A: Having to drag your sled back up the hill, right??

Problem solved.

This my friends in the rope-tow at Soldier's Hollow

and it is the best thing ever invented.

This last Saturday afternoon was spent sliding up and down this very hill and getting towed back to the top.
(throwing slushballs at each other the whole way up of course)

Now, I'm plenty happy that the snow has melted itself away from Provo,

but Heber can keep it all year long as far as I'm concerned.

Especially if it's 50 degrees every time I go sledding.
This I could get used to:
