the rest of utah

So, part of me is pretty sad that we missed Utah's first snowfall of the season by only 3 days, but that's the way it is.  I'm not sure our tiny plane would have done well dealing with the ice, so maybe it's a good thing...

In other news, here's all the fun things we did post wedding, you know, besides the fact that we stayed in our PJ's till noon the day after the big day.  Wearing heels for 12 hours and eating cake will really take it out of you.

One of the best things about going to Utah is just being with family and especially being with all the nieces and nephews we miss so much when we're over westwards.  They grow up soooo much in the months between our visits.  Slow down already will you??

Thanksgiving is always fun with the Nemrows, even if David did come home pummeled after their Turkey Bowl ;)  It was a perfectly crisp November day and we cooked and scootered and napped and talked and ate till we could eat no more.  What more could you want from Thanksgiving?

And the feast was divine, really, Cindy outdid herself and I'm not sure any other turkey will be able to satisfy me again. 
I'm still dreaming about her sweet potatoes...

Friday was our last day in happy valley so we decided to go all out, blast the holiday tunes, and go to Salt Lake to see the lights at Temple Square (my favorite Utah tradition).  And they didn't disappoint - although I may have been the only one in a hat, mittens, and huge coat that night.  It was cooold! Or maybe I've just reverted back to my wimpy Southern California skin...
AND, of course, we stopped by our favorite SLC dessertary and shared a waffle smothered in speculoos afterwards.  I mean, how could we not?

And that was a wrap.  We said our goodbyes the next morning and drove a whole 15 minutes (sooo crazy convenient) to the Provo airport and were whisked away back to the land of LA.  Ah Utah, I still miss you, and I'm especially missing your snowy mountains today (speaking of, I love this print).  Till next time... 

weekending

After spending Memorial Day weekend with my family, we rolled into our garage Monday night and David realized he had left his suit at my parent's house.  Oops.  I told my mom to which she replied, "Wonderful!  We'll bring it up to you on Saturday!"  Any excuse to get together right?

We took them out for burgers and all sorts of friend vegetables at Bricks for lunch and headed to our favorite shaved ice joint for dessert.  It was a scorcher in the 100's, but we made do.

 Turning 24 and 18...or 42 and 81...?

It's always a treat to hang with the fam.  Never complaining about that.

Later that afternoon Dave and I decided to head down to the LA temple.  We were very happily surprised by the coastal Santa Monica breeze that was MUCH cooler than up by our home.

We were finally able to finish up some family names we've been helping my cousin to complete (after like 10 months  - sorry Christa!), and spent a good three hours in the temple just enjoying.  We were in no hurry and that was nice for a change.

We topped off the night with chocolate chip cookies (ohmygosh this was a really good batch, ask Dave) and Inception...during which we fell asleep.  Which feels appropriate somehow...and a good excuse to watch it again.

Now that it's officially June I've gotten the summer bug and can't wait to get out and about doing all the summery things southern California has to offer...let the fun begin!

shirley & temples

Saturday was the best.  No, seriously, it was such a great day.

First things first, we shot down to the LA temple to catch the 10:30 session with my mom and dad.  It was such a lovely day and the traffic was so close to nonexistent (What?? On the 405??! This is madness) that we made it to the temple in half the time we budgeted.  We strolled around the grounds and had a lovely time soaking in the springtime sunshine.  Okay, Dave was really hot, but I was soaking in the springtime sunshine.

Afterwards we went to the cutest restaurant just a few blocks from the temple per David's recommendation: Westside Tavern.  And it did NOT disappoint.

A few beet salads, sweet potato steak fries, vege burgers, short rib grilled cheeses, quinoa salads, crab cakes, strawberry rhubarb cobblers and more than a few shirley temples later we were stuffed to the brim and more than a little satisfied.

We will most definitely be back.

And I almost wore a blue skirt and brown belt with this outfit.  ALMOST.  Too bad.  That would have been too perfect.

Dave and decided we need to spend more Saturdays like this one.

lunch date

Woohoo for Saturdays!  It's so nice to have David around all day long.  We made our first trip down to the LA Temple and had a lovely time.  It used to be nice having the Provo Temple so close (hello 5 minutes away), but making an afternoon trip of the whole deal was a nice change.

And where else would we go afterward than grab a burger at In-N-Out?  We felt awfully overdressed, however.  Perhaps next time we'll try someplace new - any suggestions friends?  We've heard Junior's Deli is delicious. . .
