Break out the Christmas music my friends.

Tis the season.

a tardy tribute

So (a week ago) on Labor Day we did all things that are appropriate for a day off from school.

David went golfing with the boys.

I went shopping with the girls.

And we did no homework.

We then had a lovely BBQ at the Nemrows after which we headed off to the Scera Outdoor Theater to listen to the lovely sounds of The (capital "T") Beatles tribute band:

1964.

I wasn't aware they were such a big deal, but apparently these guys have been playing Beatles tunes for something like 28 years now.

Can you imagine not cutting your hair for that long??  Because I'm almost certain these guys, um...haven't.

We had a lovely time getting rained on, snuggling under our soggy blankets and singing

"we all live in a yellow submarine" at the top of our lungs.

Also, while we're on the topic, I rather like these portraits of the boys.

and it's still stuck.

Childhood flash-backs are abounding.

I submit that there are few things better than rolling down the windows,

finding a good song on the radio,

and car-dancing to your heart's content

while belting out lyrics you only know the chorus to.

OR

Putting that one song that reminds you of that one good time on repeat for a while.

OR

Simply doing your homework serenaded by Chopin, Mozart and Beethoven.

guess who...

guess who is playing only an hour away from where I'm sitting right now??

Josh Ritter is playing a solo acoustic show at the Sundance Film Festival this afternoon....

And why am I not there you ask?

Well, three reasons:

1. You have to be a festival badge holder to get in
(and I'm not that cool)

2. I'm working till 5:00 tonight
(and I'm pretty sure he'll be done by then)

3. I'm not 21 
(and won't be till April, which will be infinitely too late)

The line may have been out the door
around the corner,
past the restaurant
and then some,
with us at the end of it,
but we still got to sit on the Venue's best kept secret.

Cushy seats.

Clear view.
Lovely ladies.

My kind of concert-watching situation.

Highlights:

Sara came out and introduced her opening bands.

Hold up.  

When was the last time you saw a headlining performer do that at their show?

Sara dancing on top of her (blue) baby grand... 

If this doesn't make you smile I don't know what will.

And the band + openers + everybody who performed took a bow together at the end of the show.

Classy.

And we're all pretty sure we'd be best friends with Sara Bareilles in real life.

today was Wednesday

coming home means some things...

1. mom's cooking

our last day in London was the best
our last night in London was even better

here's how it went down:

Original Plan: Dinner plans at a Thai restaurant
Reality: That place is closed, wandering leads us to another Thai place closer to the theatre that ends up serving great pad thai and delicious banana goodness for dessert.
Great success.

Original Plan: We thought the show started at 8:00
Reality: The show started at 7:30, but since we ate dinner closer than we thought we made it on time

Original Plan: We thought Lissie was headlining.  She wasn't.
Reality: Since we eat dinner closer than we had planned we saw her play her 5 opening songs.
We were the happiest.

Original Plan: We weren't very excited for the Local Natives who were actually headlining the show
Reality:  They turned out to be amazing, so amazing in fact that we went to buy t-shirts afterwards

The Results of Reality:
Because we bought shirts two sweet, wonderful girls gave us post-concert party tickets so we got to go back and meet the band who turned out to be from Orange County and went to Tesoro High School.

The best of nights.

can i just say how thoroughly and completely depressed i am that i couldn't see josh ritter last week while he and i were both in london???
