triple lutz

Last night for our Young Women's activity we combined up with the Young Men and took everybody ice skating.  Now, you've gotta understand.  Ice skating and me?  We're often at odds.  On my 15th birthday I, well...got a concussion out on the ice.   At a youth activity.  Youth Conference to be exact.

Oh baby, that was a fun day.  Waking up laying on the ice with half the stake's youth looking down at me?  Classy stuff.

So those ice skates and I, we have a bit of a tiff, but I promised my laurels I'd get out with them!  (I did that - why did I do that??)  So I show up thinking most of the other leaders will get out there and embarrass themselves with me.  Nope, just two of us.  And the other leader?  She has her own skates.  Legit.  Looks like I'm going to embarrass myself, all by myself.

After watching ice skating, and dancing, and twizzling, and triple combinations for the past week plus, I somehow got a little overconfident - they make it look so easy!!  We'll I'm here to tell you, watching the Olympics does not, in any way, make you a better ice skater.  Shocker.  But I'm a pretty big fan of the little aluminum walkers they had to train the little kids with.  I'd be happy to have one of those in my size please.

Oh, and no concussion, so, you know, that's a win :)

up to the mountains

On Thursday I got out the door before David to fill the car with gas, swing by the church, grab 4 teenagers, and start out on a 2 1/2 hour drive to drop them off at Big Bear.  Truth be told, we had a lot of fun rockin' out to their iPods and talking about summer plans (and trying really hard not to get queasy on those windy mountain roads!).

Our stake is having our Youth Conference this year up in the thin aired mountains by Big Bear Lake, and I forgot how lovely it is up there.  The last time I went to Big Bear was my senior year of high school, so it's been, you know, a while.  I was only on the drop-off crew, so, sadly, I didn't get to stay for the Youth Conference festivities (and become a sleep deprived monster Laurel leader).

After getting the girls settled in and grabbing a quick lunch with them, I started back down the mountain...after I did a little exploring:

I wish I had thought bring my big camera with me so I could have taken some better pictures, but alas, it was just the little iPhone and me trying oh so hard to capture how pretty it was up there.  Thank goodness for panorama pictures!

I'm not a big camper, but I'm thinking Dave and I should try to take a weekend trip up here sometime this summer and enjoy the scenery.

partying

So Wednesday night, my Laurels were so darn cute and threw me a birthday party!  I love planning parties with one condition: that they are not my own, so it was so cute to show up and see streamers strung, banners made, and a lovely birthday crown to wear all night.

Delicious homemade birthday cake was eaten, sherbert was supplied (my favorite!), prom was discussed, dresses were shown, boys were texted, and happy birthday was sung.  It was a great success.

Oh!  And I BAKED!  You really ought to be proud of me.  I made these babies and two days later...they are almost all gone.  Don't worry Dave and I didn't eat them all by our selves - we shared (sort of).

Come on it sugar cookies and pink frosting.  I didn't stand a chance.

Thanks for a great night my lovely Laurels!
