2 months

Holy cow, how are we already to TWO whole months??  Time has become this spinning vortex of sleeping, eating, playing, annnnnd repeat.  As a new momma it's been a lot to adjust to, and my biggest hurdle is making myself take things slow and not compare myself to any other momma out there.  But enough about me, what about this little chunk??  Well, he's just the happiest little dude.  He really only cries when he's hungry or getting tired, and he's an A+ kiddo at napping (most of the time - I've probably jinxed myself for saying that now**).  He's also a champ at eating, the evidence of such seen here:

I mean, those cheeks, right?  He's been working hard on them.

As of two months this little chunk is weighing in at 12 lb 6 oz (50th percentile) and is 24 1/2 inches long (98th percentile).  But the kicker is really his head circumference: 42 1/2 cm (>100th percentile).  This kid's head size is off the charts, quite literally.  Just a future genius over here.

We also survived our first rounds of shots this month - both of us.  I was pretty worried about watching my little babe get zapped so I asked Dave to come with me, and you know what?  It really wasn't that bad.  He had to get 3 shots, but our nurse was so stellar and quick that by the time she got to the third shot he'd just begun to figure out he didn't like what was going on.  He cried for maybe 30 seconds (while I felt horrible and cuddled him to death), and then was totally good to go.  I know some babes are super sad after shots (poor little sore legs!!), but Clark is definitely a baby superman.  He was back to his normal self after a good nap and some food in his belly.

So far this kiddo has given me one, blissfully amazing 6 hour nighttime stretch, but, unfortunately, just the once.  His usual MO is to go down at 11:00ish, wake up at 3:30 to eat, and then go back down till 7:00, which isn't bad by any means, buuuuut, sleeping through the night is our goal here.  Feel free to do it any day now baby!

Currently the best way to get this kiddo to smile is to: smile and laugh with him.  Works (almost) every time.  He gives cheesers out pretty freely to his daddy and me, but since we haven't been taking him out too much yet (it being winter and flu season and all) we'll see how much of a flirt he really is soon enough ;)

Some highlights from month two:
  • This babe's first Christmas - too much fun
  • Taking baby boy to Disneyland for the first time.  I know he won't remember it, but it was a kick all the same.
  • Watching this kid sneeze and startle himself.  It's a habit that's going out the window soon, but I will for sure miss it when it's gone.
  • Baby boy taking a bottle for the first time!  Halleluiah!  Momma could use a little help now and then, ya know what I'm sayin'?
  • Clark finding his reflection for the first time and chatting himself up.  Too stinkin' cute.
  • Also, baby boy has definitely found his tongue and it's rarely inside his mouth anymore.
  • Lastly, and weirdly, I CANNOT set an alarm for this kid if he's napping or he WILL wake up before I want him to.  Every. Single. Time.  It's seriously uncanny.  He must have a 6th sense or something.  I guess I'll just keep watching the clock...
Mostly we just love having this little chunk in the house!  He's worth every sleepless night and stinky diaper change ;)  We love you baby boy!

** P.S. - Clark totally took a less than stellar and totally disjointed nap while I tried to write this post.  Next time I'll keep my mouth shut ;)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

New Years was a bit quieter around our house this year, but we did stay up to (have to feed baby at) midnight which was the first time in a few years for me ;)

Instead of going to some crazy party we packed up the bebe and strolled across the street for some pizza.  We're wild like that.
Also my New Year's resolution is to send out Christmas cards this year - I think I can handle that ;)

One of the best perks of living in Pasadena, just a few blocks south of Colorado Avenue, is getting to saunter up on New Years day to watch the Rose Parade.

^^ The floats are always killer.  Dave is a big fan of parades and this one didn't disappoint. ^^

Even though it was in the low 40's (!!), baby boy was a champ all snuggled up in his stroller.  It was his first parade and he loved it, he told me so.

We spent the rest of the day eating lunch with family and taking one KILLER New Year's Day family nap.  Seriously.  Best three hour nap ever.

We're excited for you 2015!

Clark's first Christmas

Christmas with this little Santa baby was double the fun.  Even though he had no idea what was going on and slept through most of the festivities, it was just so fun to have him BE here and be apart of everything!

We started off Christmas Eve right with our traditional brunch in Laguna Beach.  Figuring out keeping up old traditions with our new little one is a bit of a task, but definitely worth it this year.  Mostly I'm pretty proud of myself for getting myself and the babe up and presentable and out the door by 10:00 in the morning.  I'm still getting the hang of nursing on the go (ie: I have no idea how to do it), so we ended up doing a bottle feed on Main Beach and a diaper change on a beach bench.
We are officially parents ;)

We're so lucky to live close to these awesome folks right now and this lovely beach view.  Also, how adorable is that tiny Santa hat??  I die.

Christmas morning was too much fun passing around this little bebe and feeding him between opening presents.

Obviously he was enthralled by all the Christmas magic...or the sparkly Christmas lights.  And he loved his Christmas present from Grammy and Poppy.

All this Christmasing can be so exhausting for such a little boy.  Also with so many hands around to cuddle this babe I got to take one killer afternoon nap.  Merry Christmas to me!

Thank you Uncle Christopher and Aunt Kristin for our night in kit!  That's definitely more of what we're doing nowadays.

Silhouette ornaments for Grammy and Poppy of all their new grand babes.

It was a very merry Christmas!  Crazy to think that next year this little bean will be one year old at Christmastime, toddling around and keeping us on our toes.  I can't wait!

baby boy

Blogging has taken a bit of a back seat now that baby boy is front and center.  Ok, a lot of a back seat, but I don't want to loose these memories!  So here's what's been going on around here, tidbit style:

Clark hung out with his "cousin" Bella.  While I love that dog, she did have the unfortunate habit of barking at my baby when he was asleep.  Not ok dog...not ok.

Clark also had some male pattern baldness going on there for a bit.  Curse you cradle cap and taking all his hair with you!  Seriously, that kid was bald as a cue ball on top with a nice cul-de-sac of hair around the sides.  Good thing he's stinkin' adorable no matter what.

This little dude has now officially been to the happiest place on Earth!  As you can see from that face, he was very excited about it.  This was one of our first big outings and maybe the first time I wore real pants since baby was born...?  We basically walking down Main Street and back - baby steps.

I love this picture on the left.  Dave was out of town and Clark decided 4AM was a good time to wake up...and stay awake.  But gosh darn it all if he isn't the cutest thing.  Even at 4AM...

We've also been working on our tummy time these days.  Obviously it's very hard work (Zzzzz).

Clark normally wakes up from his nap with a nice healthy cry because, gosh darn it, he's hungry, please!  But this time I found him just sitting content as can be talking to himself with his little feet free and squirming about.  Seriously, the cutest thing I ever did see.

Aunt Brooke is also pulling some serious moves to get to the top of Clark's favorite aunt list ;)

Baby boy got to make eyes at his future bride again when the Case's passed through Orange County on their way to Arizona for the holidays (and before they headed off to Singapore for 3 months!)  This picture was taken right after Eleanor made a grab for Clark's head, and more specifically his binky that must obviously be for her.  She's a girl who knows what she wants!

We got to show baby boy around one of my favorite places all decked out for Christmas: Balboa Island in Newport Beach.  Darn it all if that place isn't the most magical and charming spot around.

When your baby wakes up on lovely white sheets with buttery morning light spilling through the windows, pictures must be taken.  Lots of pictures.  I love these two.  They capture our little Clark to the T: his sweet expressions and happy eyes.  He's studying Dave's face in the picture on the left - I just love those two boys of mine.

And lastly, this might be my favorite picture of baby boy to date.  Dave was a peach and watched Clark for me so I could go to church for the first time since baby boy was born.  It was such a treat to get to sing the Christmas hymns (my favorite!) that I've been missing all month and take the Sacrament.  I came back after the first hour of church to switch shifts with Dave and this is how I found this sweet boy, bundled up and looking crazy adorable.  He slept like that on the bed for another hour so, naturally, I just curled up next to him and basically stared at him for those full 60 minutes.  Whipped.  Absolutely whipped I tell ya.
